Heavy Wall Weld Inspection

Single Pass UT Vessel Weld Inspections

The Automated UT Solution from our principal company M/s Automated Inspection Systems (AIS) Inc., USA performs the weld examination of a heavy wall pressure vessel or gas sphere under ASME Code Case 2235. Avoid the cost, safety issues, and limitations of radiography by resorting to our technique !

The regulations for the use of Radiography are tight involving special precautions like radiation monitoring, extra lead or concrete radiation shields and evacuation of the construction site to do the radiographic exposures. This costs a lot of money and causes a lot of paperwork. Secondly, the work has to be stopped to make the exposures on heavy walled vessels. Automated UT enhances the detectability of volumetric and planar indications over Radiography without any degradation to signal to noise ratio. Like Radiography, one can characterize the indications found to be planar (crack like or lack of fusion) or volumetric (slag, porosity etc) but the technique importantly provides in measurement of the through wall dimension of an indication. There is no need to move vessels or clear the areas - welds can be inspected when other welds are being made ! Results are instant and can be applied to process control the 'welding procedure' and make timely rectifications. A well designed automated UT system offering single pass examination is today the fastest inspection method and saves valuable time for construction company. With the NB-2000MCx and our multichannel TOFD frame, you will be able to examine each and every weld zone in a single line scan and obtain reliable code compliant results.

A complete and compact automated UT data system, the NB-2000MCx comes standard with 8 or 16 data channels in a small portable ruggedized carrying case. A laptop based Windows XP computer allows for acquired data to be analyzed and multiple channels correlated immediately and simultaneously using our advanced Viewdata analysis software featuring C-scans, B-scans, End Views, Raw Data, Wave Form displays, TOFD analysis, and automated report generation.

A Dual Axis Motorized Scanner, viz. Smartscanner, which attaches to the electronics NB 2000 MCx is used for this application. Depending upon the weld thickness, the probe positions are configured. The TOFD Frame Mates to the Smartscanner. This is a standard product which is available Off the Shelf and it can handle up to 8 TOFD or PE Combinations
